The Rudranath Trek is one of the most holy treks in Uttarakhand. It is the fourth temple of the famous Panch Kedar temples. The temple of Rudranath is situated amidst lush green forests, alpine grasslands, and mighty Himalayan mountains.
Rudranath Temple is supposed to have been built by the Pandavs who were the characters in the Indian epic called 'Mahabharat'. It is said that the Pandavs came to the Himalayan region looking for the God Shiva to get redeemed of their sins which were committed during the Kurukshetra battle. God Shiva did not wish to see the Pandavs and transformed himself into a bull. Parts of Shiva emerged in different locations: the hump appeared in Kedarnath, his arms in Tungnath, the navel and abdomen in Madhyamaheshwar, face in Rudranath and head in Kalpeshwar.
